Summer News

Hello, Family and Friends.

Just wanted to give you a brief update and share a prayer request for Dennis. I posted an update on my blog at the beginning of April. You can read it here if you like.

I'll pick up from there. Dennis had a CT scan and colonoscopy at the beginning of May as this fell between the anniversaries of his two surgeries. The CT scan looked good, but revealed that he did have a small hernia above his ostomoy site. The colonoscopy went well. The doctor found a few small polyps which he removed. He said everything looked good, especially the surgery site; and he reminded us that Dr. Pigazzi is one of the top surgeons.

We all looked forward to the end of school which for us was June 11. The summer has been good for Dennis. He has been able to both rest and exercise. These have worked together to increase his energy level. I wrote on my post in April that he was struggling with this as well as with digestive issues. Not only has his energy level increased, but his digestive problems are gradually improving. We continue to watch his diet and he is using various supplements to help. The doctor has made some adjustments in his medications which will likely help him as well once he begins taking the new prescriptions.

While the increased exercise has been good for him, it has also aggravated his plantar fasciitis. He saw a podiatrist last month. The doctor gave him a cortisone shot as well as a boot that he wears for several hours at night to help stretch the muscle in his foot. These seem to be helping.

Our prayer request is in regards to Dennis' hernia. It began bothering him this past month. When he met with Dr. Pigazzi for a follow-up appointment earlier in the month, they decided to go ahead and do surgery to repair it. That surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, August 1st at 2:00 in the afternoon. We are grateful they decided to do this. While loading the car on Saturday to head home from our vacation in Phoenix, Dennis further strained the area and was in quite a bit of discomfort on our drive home. Although it is not as painful now, the area has continued to bother him.

We would appreciate your prayers for his surgery: for the area to be repaired, for no trouble with anesthesia, for pain management following surgery, and for healing. School will begin in a few weeks, so he will need to be feeling well by then.

We never know what God is going to bring into our lives, but we continue to lean on Him for strength, peace and hope. We cling to Romans 8:28 - that all things work for our good and God's glory.

Thanks so much!
Carolyn and Dennis
