Spiritual Blindness

We are finishing up our study in Revelation. In our lesson today we looked at The Great White Throne Judgment.

"Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged for the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown in the lake of fire . This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." -Revelation 20:11-15

There are good people who do good things. "But it isn't being good that gets us into heaven. The only way into heaven is by believing in and accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior (John 14:6). It's giving our lives over to Him." (D4Y p. 123)

All the people standing around the throne in Revelation 20:11-15 are going to the lake of fire because they chose not to believe in Jesus. "God gives each and every one of us a choice. We can choose to live for Him and spend eternity in heaven, or we can choose to follow Satan and spend eternity with him, the beast, and the false prophet in the lake of fire and brimstone." (D4Y p. 124)

After our lesson, we talked about how we know the end of the story. Satan loses. He will be thrown into the lake of fire. And yet, he continues to work hard at keeping people from surrendering their lives to Christ. I guess he figures if he's going to hell, he wants to try to take as many people with him as possible.

Interestingly, when we turned to science, our lesson on the parasitic filarial worms led to a discussion by the author about spiritual blindness. These filarial worms can cause elephantiasis as well as river blindness. The author posed the question, "Do you know what spiritual blindness is?" (Apologia p. 260) My girl stated that it was blindness from the Truth. "Ding, ding!" She got it!

2 Corinthians 4:4 says, "The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." In other words, "people who do not believe the truth about Jesus have been blinded by Satan." (Apologia p. 260)

These lessons served as reminder to us that Jesus is stronger than Satan. Because of this truth, we can and must pray for the people we know to be delivered from the spiritual blindness they are suffering from at the hands of the enemy. We want them to be able to see and understand the Truth about Jesus so they can spend eternity with Him and not with Satan in the lake of fire.
