Walking With God

As my kids and I continue our study of Joseph, we learned that he was a man who walked with God. We spent some time looking at what the Bible says about what it means to walk with God.

In Genesis 6:9 we read that Noah walked with God. He was described as a righteous man who was blameless in his time.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16 tells us about Moses. As leader of the people, he told them to walk in God's ways, to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments. Moses told the Israelites that the result of walking with God in this way would be that the Lord their God would bless them in the land they were entering to possess.

In Micah 6:8, Micah tells Israel to walk humbly with our God.

1 John 1:5-7 reveals to us that if we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin then we walk in the light.

1 John 2:4-6 shows us that if we abide in Jesus we are to walk in the same manner as He (Jesus) walked.

Ephesians 4:1-3 instructs us further in how we are to walk. We are to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which we have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 5:1-2 reminds us to walk in love.

Ephesians 5:15-17 says to be careful how we walk. We are to walk as wise men.

As we look at how we are to walk with God, we see very clearly that Joseph did. He was righteous and blameless. He did walk in God's ways, kept God's commandments, His statutes and His judgments. Joseph was humble. He reflected the light of the Lord in every situation. Joseph lived a life of sacrifice as did Jesus. He walked worthy of God showing gentleness, patience, tolerance and unity. Joseph walked in love and was a man of wisdom. The result of his walk was as Moses said it would - God blessed him.

Knowing what it means to walk with God how about you? What is your walk like?

Do you walk in God's ways? Do you keep His commandments? Do you obey God?

Do you walk humbly? Have you bowed the knee and surrendered yourself to God? Or have you put yourself in God's place?

Do you walk in the light? Do you tell the truth? Do you love other people?

Do you walk like Jesus? Jesus sacrificed His life for others. He did God's will, not His. He chose to put other people before Himself. Name a way that you walk like Jesus.

Do you walk in a manner worthy of your calling? Do people see patience, gentleness, and humility in you?

Are you careful how you walk? Are you wise? Do you know God's Word?

Be like Joseph - become God's superhero by walking with Him!

This was a challenging lesson! I'm still meditating on it, searching my heart and finding areas in which I need to get right with the Lord. I pray my children and I will remember these truths and will strive to always walk with God.
