Encouragment for Trials
“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.” These trials have come, the Scripture says, “so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine” (1 Peter 1:6,7). This genuine, refined by fire, holding-on-for-dear-life faith will result in praise and glory to Christ.”

We will go through trials, but we can submit to them so that our faith, the most precious thing we have, may be authentic. When people see our lives they know we are honest people. Suffering makes us real, and that brings glory to God.

Lord, how frequently and mindlessly we kick against the very constraints you put in place for our growth and refinement. Remind those of us who get so caught up with the earthly that to do so is to miss the heavenly. Your plan for each of us is not one of earthly ease but of heavenly peace.

How do we truly give up our agendas? How do we genuinely say, “not my will but Yours, Lord”? For me, the answer to that question is found in my understanding and acceptance of God’s sovereignty. All happenings on this earth and in my life are worked out in conformity with His purpose -not mine, but His.

Dear friend, embrace your day - this day - it is a gift. Take the Lord’s hand. He will help you to unwrap the day and then to celebrate it. And His grace is sufficient for any need you have.

Sometimes we search so hard for the miraculous that we miss the obvious reality of His ever-present nearness.

Every day God reminds us to quit holding things too tightly - whether an event, a viewpoint, a desire, a particular time in life, or a person we thoroughly enjoy. He urges us to stop struggling, resisting, coercing, or manipulating for what we want. When we simply do what he asks, no matter how hard it seems, and we keep our focus on the Light of the world, an amazing brightness comes, all within the embrace of his love.

Being touched by God’s extravagant grace ignites something within us that causes others to notice. It’s an interior glow that is like an exterior light in that it casts its influence in spite of the degree of darkness in which it finds itself - not only in spite of the darkness but because of it. In the darkness the light becomes more attractive, more influential, more valuable, and more obvious.

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance. Romans 5:3
Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 2 Timothy 2:10
These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:7
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10
