Crabby or Thankful?

It is better to live alone in the desert than with a (crabby), complaining wife. -Proverbs 21:19

Matthew Henry said, "It is better to have no company than bad company."

Let's look at the key factor here that makes a woman a misery. It's complaining. This comes directly from unthankfulness. We can get so busy fixating on what we don't have that we completely forget and completely miss out on the blessings that we do have.

Wives, this is a warning. If we make our husbands feel like they can't do anything right, they will eventually stop trying.

So what is the cure for a crabby, complaining heart? It's a thankful heart. Colossians 3:15 says, "Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. . . And always be thankful."

I'll never forget the wedding of a friend that took place in Palmdale. The pastor used this proverb in his message! It was pretty funny, but also an important reminder to the bride as well as to us other wives to not go down the road of complaining.

I have seen a husband or two who have been beaten down by their wives. Nothing they did was every good enough and their wives let them know - every minute of every day. And after a while, the husbands stopped trying. It has made for some very sad families.

The enemy would like nothing more than to destroy families. We must be vigilant to look for the good in our
mates, in our children, in our daily tasks, jobs and circumstances. When your feelings are wavering, think back to the reasons you were attracted to your husband in the first place. Take the time to see the good things your husband does, even the simple things, and be sure to verbally thank him. When your children seem more of a burden than a joy, set your expectations aside long enough to see the good things your kidsa are doing and praise them for it. Kids live up to what we believe about them. Maybe your circumstances aren't what you wish they were. Stop looking at what your friends have or do and see the things you have in front of you that are unique and special only to your family. If you look, there is always something to be thankful for!
