Elohim; God as Creator

The name used for God in Genesis 1:1 is Elohim. This word designates God as God. It means "to fear" or "to reverence." The first part of the word, El, means "mighty" or "strong". It is the word we use to refer to Almighty God. The im ending is important as it is a plural ending.

In Genesis 1:1 we read that God was in the beginning; that He created the heavens and the earth. God is our Creator. Elohim then, is the word for God as Creator.

In Genesis 1:2 we see that the Spirit of God was moving over the
surface of the waters. This Spirit of God is the Holy Spirit Both were present at Creation.

In John 1:1 the apostle tells us that the Word was in the beginning; the Word was with God and the Word was God. So there are three claiming to be God.

John 1:3-4 says that "He" was in the beginning. We know from John 1:14 that the One who became flesh and dwelt among us, Who is the only begotten from the Father, Who is God's Son is Jesus. By Him all things came into being.

Hebrews 1:2 says that through His Son (Jesus) the world was made.

Colossians 1:16 shows us that all things have been created through Jesus and for Jesus.

By looking at all these verses, we see that in the beginning Elohim - God the Father; God the Son, Jesus; and God the Holy Spirit - each had a part in Creation. This is why the name Elohim has a plural ending; because three were present at Creation.

In Genesis 1:26-27 it is revealed that God created us in His image. We were created in the image of God. God is the Creator. He not only created the heavens and the earth, the sun, moon, stars, dry land, seas, the plants and animals; but most importantly, God created us!

And in Genesis 1:31 we see that God says everything He created was good. No matter how imperfect we think we are, or what anyone else says about us, we need to remember that God is Creator. He looked at all He created, and according to Him, everything He made, including us, was very good!

God has a purpose for the way He made us. God has a purpose for everything. God our Creator makes us exactly the way He wants us to be and sees it as very good. We should not complain about how we look or what gifts and abilities we have because God created us in His image the way He wanted us to be.
