I recently read Gary Thomas' book Sacred Marriage . The premise of his book is how marriage can help us to deepen our relationship with God. When I read a book like this, I like to journal about it to help me remember what I've read. Here I've written some of the points that stood out to me the most. These barely scratch the surface of what Gary Thomas included in his book, so I definitely encourage you to read it for yourself. Romans 8:28 states that “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” This was one of the first Scriptures I memorized as a young believer and it has been my life verse because its truth has been played out in my life in a very real way. At the age of about 9, my next door neighbor shared the Gospel with me and I prayed to receive Christ as my Savior. While I received the free gift of salvation at that time, I didn’t understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with God and I certainly didn’t understand that I didn’t have to do anything to earn God’s love and approval. By nature I was a pleaser. I didn’t want to disappoint people. As I continued into my teen years, this need for acceptance began to grow in me in a negative way.
