News for 2013

Here’s our news for 2013. . .

The best news is that Dennis’ regular blood work and “anniversary” CT-scan show he continues to be cancer free. We are not without regular reminders that he has walked the cancer road, but we are grateful for his continued health, ability to work, and the time we have to enjoy him. This year we celebrated Dennis’ 50th birthday weekend with a Beatles themed party at Carolyn’s parents’ house, a Quakes baseball game and dinner at Red Robin. Dennis continues to teach at ACA in Redlands and was pleased to be given the same classes as last year - Economics, US History, Government and AP Government.

Carolyn is in her 4th year of homeschooling the kids, It remains a challenge and a joy. She was a first time team mom for Ellie’s basketball team. Once again she coordinated the crafts for summer VBS and has started helping out with special children’s ministry events at church. Carolyn is also very happy to be back in a women’s Bible study after having been away for two years.

Ellie just turned 11 and has had a very active year. She played basketball for the first time in the spring. Her height was a great advantage on defense and she had several assists during the season. She was given the opportunity to play Knight “Nicky” Nicole in the morning skit for VBS this summer. She has shown some talent in this area and really got into her character. Ellie played volleyball for the 2nd time this fall and showed herself to be a consistent player and team leader. She is now preparing to play Shirley Watson Holmes for this year’s church Christmas program.

Josh is 8 now. He is not too interested in playing sports, but he did take golf lessons with First Tee during the summer. He did okay and ended up liking it. The kids played in a homeschool bowling league this fall which Josh enjoyed mainly because he made some new friends. Josh is an avid reader and is often busy writing and drawing about his latest ideas. He will be joining Ellie in the Christmas program as Leroy the angel - “peace out!”

In other news, Carolyn and the kids have enjoyed many field trips. Both kids learned how to ride bikes this year. We celebrated Carolyn’s Grandma’s 90th birthday with a family lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory. We took a family vacation to Ramona this summer. Besides swimming almost everyday, we visited the Creation Museum in Santee, Old Town San Diego, the San Diego Mission and Julian. (Yeah, we’re a homeschooling family!) We spend a lot of time visiting the library. We see movies when we can. Otherwise we just enjoy time together at home.

As Dennis said at Thanksgiving, not everyday is easy, but everyday is good. We have a simple life, but we feel blessed beyond measure. God has been truly faithful to us. We hope you too will experience the joy that comes from a life centered on Christ. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2014.

The Henrys
Dennis, Carolyn, Ellie and Josh
